TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Without our nation’s veterans, America wouldn't be the great nation it is today. Our youth deserve to learn about our rich history, traditions and the role of our veterans in creating and shaping America.

Each year the VFW selects elementary, middle, and high school teachers to participate in the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Program.

The winner from each category (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12) at the Post level will receive a $450 cash award.

The winner from each category will then have the opportunity to advance to the District, State, and National competition and compete for the top prize which includes a $1,000 cash award, a $1,000 award for each winning teachers' school, and an all-expense-paid trip to the VFW National Convention.

The attached brochure contains the 2025 entry form and other details needed to apply or nominate a teacher you know.

The deadline for submissions is by midnight, October 31, 2025.
